The Best Clutter-free Gifts for Kids

If you’re like me, you struggle with clutter and want to find other gift options for your kids besides toys that take up space in your home (and sometimes don’t get played with). I’m sharing some of my favorite clutter free (or mostly clutter free) gift ideas that I’ve used for my own family.

Experience gifts

Experience gifts are one of my favorite gifts, and I often recommend this to family members who are looking for ideas for our kids. Spending time together as a family is the best gift we can give our children, and even better- it’s totally clutter free! Here are some experience gift ideas:

  • Museum or zoo memberships
  • Amusement park pass or a day at the amusement park
  • Gift cards to favorite restaurants or to an ice cream shop for a family date
  • Pottery painting class

Consumable gifts

These gifts aren’t completely clutter free, but they are gifts that kids use up, and so they don’t sit around and take up space for an indefinite amount of time. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Art/craft supplies and kits
  • Subscription boxes
  • Friends Art Lab makes a huge coloring poster than you can tape on the wall, and provides hours of coloring fun. My kids love these art banners!
  • Play doh/sensory kits- these are mostly consumable because the playdoh doesn’t last forever, and they take up very little space. We love this shop for play doh kits!

Other Ideas

Handmade coupons- when I was a kid, I would make handmade coupons for my parents to redeem whenever they want. I would write things like “one massage” or “one chore of choice”, and then my parents would redeem it whenever they wanted me to do that activity/chore. I think this is really cute for parents to give to their kids, too, and fosters connection! It might be something like “sit and read a story with me”, “go on a day date with mom”, or “stay up 1/2 an hour past bedtime” etc.

Games- This is not exactly clutter-free, but we value having games in our home because they are a super easy way to spend more time together. Most games also take up very little space, and we have a designated game cabinet where all of our games live when we’re not playing with them. Here are some of our favorite family games:

I hope you find these ideas helpful!
